Nearly Eight Weeks of Silence, One Night to Break It

There is a version of a league restart that eases you back in. A road trip to an expansion side. A Tuesday in front of a half-full house. Major League Soccer looked at that version and chose the other one: 55 days dark, nearly eight weeks of silence, then straight into the loudest rivalry it owns.
Friday night in Carson is not a comeback game. It is a reintroduction, delivered at full volume, to a fixture that has never once agreed to be calm.
Ask this rivalry to introduce itself and it reaches straight for 2018. The Galaxy sit ninth, clutching the conference’s final playoff spot, riding an unbeaten run in five of their last six behind Marco Reus (4 goals, 5 assists) and Joseph Paintsil (3 goals, 4 assists). Both sides return with the same nearly eight weeks of rust. Only one leaves Carson with it shaken off.
